First Lady blasts Amaechi •Holds meeting with anti-Amaechi lawmakers

The First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, yesterday took a swipe at Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State when she said Port Harcourt, the state capital, has lost its attraction during the governor’s reign.

Dame Jonathan who was in the city to attend the wedding of one of the five anti-Amaechi legislators in the State House of Assembly prayed for the return of the lost glory.

“During the time of Chief Rufus Ada-George and Dr. Peter Odili as governors, everybody wanted to come to Port Harcourt, which was called the Garden City, but I pray that it will return to what it used to be, so that we and our children can be proud of Port Harcourt,” she said at the wedding reception.

The governor who was scheduled to be the guest of honour was absent at the wedding-of Mr. Evans Bipi and former Miss Rhoda Sika- although he was represented at the church by his deputy, Tele Ikuru .

Ikuru did not attend the reception having left for another function in his home town.

Bola Tinubu's late mother buried

Former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu's mother, Abibatu Mogaji, died yesterday June 15th at the ripe old age of 96. The former President-General, Association of Nigerian Market Women and Men, was buried this morning Sunday, June 16 at the Vaults and Gardens Cemetery in Ikoyi, Lagos.

Multiple media outlets like Daily Mail, Us Weekly, Celebuzz and TMZ are reporting that Kim Kardashian has given birth to a baby girl, five weeks before she was due.

Kim Kardashian has given birth to a baby girl ... TMZ has learned. Sources close to KK tell TMZ the baby and Kim are both in good health. We're told Kim delivered the baby at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center this morning (Saturday June 15th)... 5 weeks sooner than originally planned. Our sources say BF Kanye West was there for the entire thing. We're told Kanye cancelled his appearance at his own record release party last night when Kim told him she was feeling "a little off." It is the first child for Kim and Kanye.

Family of Madonna Univeristy fire victim speak out

On Saturday June 8th, a room at Saint Peters boys hostel in the Okija campus of Madonna University, Anambra State, was gutted by fire, killing one student. (Read the story HERE).

The family of the dead student, Chigozie Orluwehuje, (pictured above) just sent me something to publish so people can know what's happening with the case. See it below...
On the 8^th of June 2013 at about 4pm the news of the fire incident got to the hearing of the mother Mrs Norra Orluwehuje and other family members by a student who happened to be a friend of Chigozie Orluwehuje, crying that the boy was one of the four that were engulfed in fire outbreak in the school hostel. The mother plus few of his relatives while on their way to school enquired of the news in the Elele campus and were directed to see one Father Francis who gave no listening ear to them according to a Rev. sister but asked us to enquire about anything in the information Centre in the school. The information center of the school openly told us that they knew nothing as at the time of the enquiry. They also refused to contact the Okija campus as to know the situation before embarking on the journey to Anambra state where the school is located.

Super Eagles Miss Flight To Brazil Over $5,000 Unpaid Bonus

They were expected to be on their way to Brazil but the African champions failed to fly to South Africa from Namibia on Tuesday due to a row over win bonus for a World Cup qualifier.

The Super Eagles were to have flown out of Windhoek to Johannesburg, Thursday afternoon and head to Sao Paulo, Brazil, minutes before 6pm South African time.

They were to be in Sao Paulo by midnight and connect immediately to Belo Horizonte, venue of their opening match of the FIFA Confederations Cup against Tahiti on Monday.

The Super Eagles’ first match in the tournament is on Monday.

The Eagles have insisted they be paid at least $5,000 for a 1 all draw with hosts Namibia on Wednesday night. They said they were not properly communicated on a pay slash.

Two robbery suspects, members of a robbery syndicate that specialize in snatching money and valuables from unsuspecting passengers were nabbed by angry mob along stadium road, Ilorin on Wednesday.
According to the unsuspecting victim, “I went to change some currency from naira to dollars at a bureau de change. After the transactions, I stopped the taxi with the men inside. Getting to my destination, I asked the driver to stop but he said he wanted to pick someone ahead before dropping me so he moved up a bit and stopped.

My wife says no sex while her mother stays with us

I’m happily married with two young kids ages 2 and 4. We stay in a 2-bedroom apartment and usually leave the connecting door ajar so that if the kids wake up during the night they may have access to our room to seek comfort, which is very frequent especially during these noisy thunder storms.

My problem started with the arrival of my mother-in-law, less than a week ago to spend 2 months. Of course, she sleeps with her grand kids in their room. This doesn’t stop them from frequenting our room during the night, so the door is still left ajar. Much to my amazement, my wife has now told me that she will no longer allow us to copulate during the time her mother is with us. She said her mum scolded her and feels we are rude to engage in lovemaking knowing fully well that she is in the adjoining room.

Litigants and witnesses at the Atani Chief Magistrate Court in Ogbaru local government area of Anambra State Wednesday witnessed a mild drama in the court premises as some people who claimed to be homosexuals nearly disrupted court proceedings in solidarity with two suspected homosexuals standing trial for allegedly committing same sex offence.

Kanye West denies cheating on Kim K with Canadian model

Kanye West insists he did not cheat on Kim Kardashian with Canadian model, Leyla Ghobadi, telling TMZ, the woman accusing him of being unfaithful is just out for some easy publicity.

Leyla recently did an interview claiming she had sex with Kanye after meeting him at one of his concerts in July 2012 and that Kanye confessed his relationship to Kim was a publicity stunt.

But a rep for Kanye told TMZ it's all lies. "This most recent attack on Kanye West and his family is totally without merit. It's a blatant attempt by a misguided individual who is clearly seeking publicity, and another in a series of malicious stories drummed up by non-credible 'news' sources. This is a sad attempt to hurt two people trying to live their lives."

In stunning claims Leyla Ghobadi, 24, told America's Star magazine that their fling started in July 2012 and continued even after Kim had announced her pregnancy after Kanye dismissed his relationship with the reality star as just 'for publicity and nothing serious'.

Explaining her decision to reveal the relationship, brunette Leyla said: 'This is going to destroy the Kardashian family. It’s bad. It’s really bad. It’s just embarrassing. But if I were Kim and about to have a baby, I would want to know.'

Riot at University of Uyo leaves one student dead

The Engineering students of the University of Uyo this afternoon went for a peaceful demonstration to the office of the school's Vice Chancellor, Prof Comfort Ekpo, after the VC mandated students to pay N100 for the school bus which used to be free. The school management had shifted most of the Science student courses to the school's permanent site which is about 20 minutes drive from the main campus, and then made the shuttle N100. That means students will have to pay N200 to and fro everyday to the permanent campus for most of their lectures.

This was what the students were protesting this afternoon when things went crazy. The peaceful protest turned violent after security officials at the V.C's office tried to stop the students from gaining access to the Vice Chancellor.

The students allegedly retaliated by throwing stones at the security officials, who then called for police back-up which led to the riot. The police arrived the scene and aggravated the situation by firing shots at the students, killing at least one student. Some say two. Some say three.

Angry students now proceeded to burn down the VC's office, the exams and records building, and a security office. Students have been evacuated from the hostel, and the school has been shut down indefinitely.

A housewife, Mrs Suzanna Fawole (38), has been remanded in Ife prisons in Osun State after she was arraigned in Magistrates’ court, Modakeke on Monday, June 3.

Fawole was accused of bathing one Funmilayo Aderibigbe (35), whom she suspected to be husband’s lover, with a liquid substance suspected to be acid, thereby causing her grievous bodily harm.

The acting Chief Magistrate, Mr O.A. Ayilara ordered that the accused be remanded in Ife prison custody while the case was adjourned till July 1 for further hearing.

May 6, was like any other day for Aderibigbe who resides on Adeboye Street, Ife-Modakeke road. Set for the day ahead, she went ahead to prepare herself for the activities she had lined up for herself, oblivious of what was in stock for her.

Single tenure: Presidency dares Senate

The Presidency on Friday said the clause in the proposed constitution amendment, which seeks to exclude President Goodluck Jonathan and some governors from participating in the 2015 elections, would fail.

Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Dr. Ahmed Gulak, said this in an exclusive interview with one of our correspondents in Abuja.

Gulak said it would be unfair for the National Assembly to make an amendment that would short-change those elected under a constitution that allows them to contest two terms of four years each.

He said, “It is not a fair amendment to target a particular group of people. That proposal will not scale through because Nigerians are wiser.

“You can’t short-change some people in the name of amending the constitution. I am sure there will be some considerations and the proposal will fail.
