According to the directives by President Good luck Jonathan that some members of the dreaded Boko Haram be released; the Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima today received 20 members of the sect at the government house in Maiduguri.
The detainees comprising of 6 women and 14 young men between the ages of 9 and 14 were received by the governor.
Governor Shettima thanked the President for his magnanimity for pardoning the sect members, stressing that the gesture indicates his commitment and quest for peace in the state and the nation as a whole.
He commended the security agencies for the safe keeping of the sect members since their arrest up until their handing them over to the Borno government in good health.
“We will do our part by ensuring that they are integrated into the larger society upon rehabilitation to become right thinking members of the society.
“The Federal Government has shown commitment by releasing the wives and children of the sect members who have been in detention.
“We would admit the women into our development centers for rehabilitation while the children, will be handed over to the ministry of women affairs who will then look out for their parents who will receive them only after writing an undertaking to enroll them into schools” Governor Shettima concluded.
He also promised a monthly payment of N10, 000 to the parents of every child enrolled into school and still remains in school.
