Two passenger trains collide in South Africa, 20 injured

Twenty people have been injured in an incident where two passenger trains collided near the city of Pretoria in South Africa, railway authorities say.

The incident took place on Thursday morning on the line between Cor Delfos and Saulsville, near Pretoria.

“There are two trains that have collided this morning,” said Lillian Mofokeng, spokeswoman for the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa.

Mofokeng added that 20 people were injured in the incident and one of the train drivers was trapped in the carriage.

“At this stage, we do not have any loss of life,” Mofokeng stated. “It is not a head-on collision.”

Earlier reports said that one of the trains was stationary on the track when the other hit it.

In May 2011, train collisions in Soweto township of Johannesburg injured nearly 860 commuters.

RIM Launches Blackberry 10

BlackBerry 10 is the first version of RIM’s smartphone platform designed for touch devices. Previous versions, such as BlackBerry 7, were optimized for non-touch handsets with physical keyboards.

Other nice additions to it includes an adaptive software keyboard that adjusts to your typing style over time and a predictive word suggestion feature that can add words to your messages with a quick gesture. There is also a new camera that offers features such as composite photos that snap several images in quick succession so you can merge them into one idealized photo.

It also has new enterprise features including Balance, which creates two "personas" on a BlackBerry device, one for work and one for personal use. See more photos of it after the cut.

My ex husband didn't love me this way

My marriage ended in 2008 after 9 years and four kids because my ex and I just couldn't make it work. The best part of it all was that we managed to remain friends after we parted ways. We see each other often because of our kids and over the years we've become quite close. If you see us together you would never guess we were divorced. I never thought exes could be friends but my relationship with mine has proven me wrong. But there's a problem now. My ex husband met a lady 8 months ago and his attitude totally changed after then. He doesn't come to the house as often as he used to, doesn't see his kids as often as he used to, doesn't call me anymore..and when he eventually shows up at my house all he talks about is her. He's moved her into his home, bought her a Mercedes and taken her on two romantic trips abroad, all in 8 months.
What am I complaining about, you may wonder? Well I was with him for 13 years and gave him four children and he never ever for once took me on a romantic trip abroad. Not once in 13 years.
Just two nights ago, he told me that he's never loved anyone as much as he loves this woman and is planning to pop the question this valentine.
I was with him for 13 years, 4 years dating and 9 years married and he's never loved anyone as much as he loves this woman he met 8 months ago? I know you read this blog occasionally J, thank you!
Oh dear!

Gunmen kill 8 in Nigeria attack

At least eight persons were killed in the troubled northeastern state of Borno by suspected members of the Boko Haram militant sect, Nigerian military sources told Xinhua on Monday.

Some gunmen invaded Gajiganna, a small community north of the state capital Maiduguri, the hotbed of the Boko Haram insurgency.

"Eight people were killed; some shot dead while others were slaughtered. The gunmen came in a volkswagen Golf car in the early hours of yesterday and entered selected houses for the attack. It is shocking because we never expected it," one of the residents told Xinhua.

Spokesman of the Joint Task Force, Lt Sagir Musa said details of the attack and exact number of the victims were yet to be ascertained.

"Gajiganna community, Magumeri Local Government Area, Borno State was attacked by unknown gunmen at about 3:00 a.m. (local time) Sunday. Information revealed that lives were lost-the exact number is yet to be ascertained," Sagir said.

North Korean parents 'eating their own children' after being driven mad by hunger

A starving man in North Korea has been executed after murdering his two children for food, reports from inside the secretive state claim.

A 'hidden famine' in the farming provinces of North and South Hwanghae is believed to have killed up to 10,000 people and there are fears that incidents of cannibalism have risen.

The grim story is just one to emerge as residents battle starvation after a drought hit farms and shortages were compounded by party officials confiscating food. Undercover reporters from Asia Press told the Sunday Times that one man dug up his grandchild's corpse and ate it. Another, boiled his own child for food.

Fire in Brazilian night club leaves 245 people dead, 200 injured

SANTA MARIA: At least 245 people died early on Sunday when a fire tore through a nightclub packed with university students in the southern Brazilian city of Santa Maria, police said.
The death toll from the inferno stood initially at 70 but rapidly increased as firefighters searched the charred remains of the “Kiss” club, believed to have been packed with 300-400 revelers at the time of the blaze.
Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff cut short a visit to Chile, where she was attending a European and Latin American summit, to head to Santa Maria and oversee the response to the tragedy, a Brazilian official said.
It was not immediately clear what caused the blaze, but media reports said the fire broke out after 2:00 am (0400 GMT) when the nightclub was hosting a university party featuring a rock band using pyrotechnics.
Santa Maria fire chief Guido de Melo said the fire caused widespread panic, and that many revelers were trampled or died from smoke inhalation.
“The main cause of death was asphyxiation,” de Melo was quoted as saying by Estadao newspaper.
Major Cleberson Bastianello, a military police commander in Santa Maria, confirmed that 245 people had been killed and told AFP another 48 had been taken to the hospital, an indication that the toll could climb further.
Pictures published by local media showed firefighters dousing the blackened shell of a red brick building with water to put out the flames.
“We have just gotten the fire under control,” Colonel Silvia Fuchs of the local fire department was quoted by the G1 website as saying. “Now we are removing the bodies.”
The bodies were taken to a sports stadium that was blocked off by police to keep grieving family members from streaming in. O Globo said a first truck carried 67 corpses followed by another with around 70.
Family members were gathering outside in the hope of getting news of their loved ones. The town is home to the Federal University of Santa Maria.

Kim and Khloe Kardashian slam their father's widow

According to Robert Kardashian's widow, Kim K's mum, Kris Jenner, was once a bad mother. Ellen Kardashian told tabloids that she was in possession of a diary belonging to Rob Snr which showed that Kris beat and kicked Kim when she was a child and frequently took her anger out on her daughters. Ellen shared the diary, which was written by Rob Kardashian between 1988-90, with In Touch Weekly this week:
According to the journals, Jenner would hide out in her bedroom for days at a time to sleep off the effects of hard partying and avoiding her young children. In one entry, dated September 1989, Robert alleges his daughters called him crying numerous times after their mother forgot to pick them up from school because she had left for places like Mexico or Palm Springs with her much younger alleged lover, Todd Waterman. “The whole time she was gone she NEVER asked to talk with her kids,” Rob wrote.
After seeing the report, Kim and Khloe slammed their step mum. See their tweets after the cut...

Catholic Church of Nigeria withdraws from the Christian Association of Nigeria

The Catholic Church of Nigeria yesterday temporarily withdrew its membership from the Christian  Association of Nigeria (CAN). Their reason? That CAN under Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor has been compromised. Also because of some uncouth statements by some Christian leaders, and the use of money in CAN elections and several court cases involving state chapters of CAN.

Spokesperson of the Church, Rev. Fr. Dr. Cornelius Omonokhua, said:
"You just can't save people who are drowning, if you are drowning with them. CAN is being dragged into partisan politics thereby compromising the ability to play its true role as conscience of the nation and the voice of the voiceless. We will be happy if CAN leadership can show moderation. Common sense dictates that they do that.”
The Catholic church said they would review their withdrawal from CAN after the annual meeting of the Conference of Bishops in February. See more after the cut..

Zambia clash will be like final – Yobo

Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo is still in pains after seeing his record outing with the national team at the continental stage end in disappointment.
The 32-year-old Fenerbahce defender was almost certain that Nigeria would overrun Burkina Faso in their first Group C game on Monday, but to everyone’s surprise, the Burkinabes waited until the last seconds to deny Nigeria of full match points.
Nigeria conceded the late goal after a defensive blunder but Yobo believes the result should have gone the Eagles’ way.
Nigeria play against Zambia in their next game on Friday.
“We played a good game and had controlled it well for the greater part of it but that’s football for you. We were supposed to get all three points so credit to Burkina Faso they found the equaliser,” Yobo said in the post-match briefing.
“As far as the result is concerned, it wasn’t the best start for us. We were supposed to win this game; it is like a lost game to me. The match against Zambia is going to be like a Cup final because we want to make sure that we qualify for the next stage.
“We have to show character in next game against Zambia.
“We know what to expect in the game because they are the defending champions and we respect them for that, they know what we can do as well and know what we will come for in the match.
“It will be a difficult game because both teams need the three points.”
Meanwhile, Burkina Faso captain, Moumouni Dagano, revealed they were expecting Nigeria to play the way they did, saying the 1-1 draw was good for his side.
“It was a hard game against Nigeria as we expected but to get a draw is good for us. We know that as a team we can play even better, so we are going to work hard for the next games,” Dagano said.
