Zuma re-elected ANC president


 President Jacob Zuma of South Africa has been re-elected president of the  African National Congress (ANC).
Zuma defeated his Deputy, Kgalema Motlanthe in a landslide victory on Tuesday at the National Elective Congress in Magangung.
He secured 2,984 votes while Motlanthe got 991 votes.
The hotly contested deputy president’s seat went to mining magnet , Cyril Ramaphosa who received outstanding support  and winning with total of 3,018 votes.
Fellow contenders Matthews Phosa (former Treasuer General) got 470 votes while Tokyo Sexwale (Minister of Human Settlement) received 463 votes.
Ms Baleka Mbeta retained her position as National Chairperson after receiving 3010 votes while her opponent, North West Premier Thandi Modise, received 939 votes.
Gwede Mantashe retained his position as Secretary General with 3058 votes to defeat Sport’s Minister Fikile Mbalula’s with 901 votes.
Jessie Duarte retained her position as Deputy Secretary General as she went into the elections unopposed.
Treasurer General’s position went to KwaZulu-Natal Premier Zweli Mkhize who defeated Arts and Culture Minister, Paul Mashatile.
There are 4,500 voting delegate, out of which a total of 3,977 was valid votes.(NAN)
